How to Choose the Perfect Table Lamp for Every Room

A table lamp does two jobs at once: it lights the room and it decorates it. Pick the right one and a corner suddenly feels finished. Pick the wrong one and even an expensive room feels off. Here is how we choose ours.

1. Start with the room, not the lamp

Living room: go for warmth and atmosphere. A woven or fabric shade spreads a soft, diffused glow that makes evenings feel calm.

Bedroom: keep it low and soft. Your bedside lamp should sit roughly at shoulder height when you're propped up in bed, so the bulb never glares in your eyes.

Desk or hallway: choose a slimmer silhouette with a directed glow — enough light to work or find your keys, without flooding the space.

2. Get the size right

The classic rule: the lamp should be about one third the width of the surface it stands on. On a narrow console, a slim base like our LinenGlow keeps things elegant instead of crowded.

3. Match the material to your palette

Warm woods and ceramics suit natural, Scandinavian interiors. Brass and glass lift a room that leans modern or classic. If in doubt, ivory ceramic goes with practically everything.

  • Desk & hallway → slim base, directed light
